Why Laser Hair Removal Is Better Than Waxing

Advanced technology has made hair removal so much easier - but still there is a problem: choosing between laser hair removal and hot wax hair removal. Which one is better?

Typically people will choose the treatment that will hurt the least and last the longest. And this makes lots of sense.. as most people do not like pain, and most people want a good value for money spent.

We prefer laser hair removal over waxing, for a number of reasons. Primarily, laser hair removal is more permanent than waxing - which results in less cost over time for our patients.

With laser hair removal - you will need 4-6 treatments per area - and it's likely you will need a few touch ups over the years to follow. However, with wax hair removal - you will be told that your hair will grow back 'more sparse' and 'less thick' with each waxing - and that waxing is 'longer lasting' than shaving - which in our experience - is simply not true.

With waxing - the bottom line is that you will have NEW HAIR every 4-6 weeks. Period. Therefore - you will have the expense of ripping it out again with more painful hot wax every 4-6 weeks. We firmly believe that laser hair removal is more permanent than waxing if long term hair removal is your goal - and because of this - more cost effective.

Choose a laser center that has a expertise in hair removal treatment. Make sure that you know the cost first - it can be a bit more expensive than waxing per treatment but it requires less treatments considering the hair growth is actually reduced with laser hair removal. It is worth the money in the end - because instead of a lifetime of treatments per area every 4-6 weeks with waxing - you will have 4-6 treatments per area and annual touch ups with laser hair removal.

There is no scarring with laser hair removal and due to the fact that lasers kill the hair follicle, and an additional bonus - is that there are no ingrown hairs or unsightly bumps as with waxing (when the wax doesn’t completely remove the hair or with sensitive skin).

Hot wax removal costs less per treatment - but it is a temporary method of hair removal not much different to shaving. The hair will return and can be a bit painful depending on where you have the wax applied. Hot wax does not remove the hair forever but is a quick fix for unwanted hair as it pulls the hair from the root, just to grow back in a short while. You also must beware of wax that is too hot and the skin can be burned or scalding can occur.

Not everyone is a candidate for laser therapies; keep in mind that lasers work the best on people with pale/fair skin. Darker skin tones may take a few extra sessions but you can discuss this with Dr. Riehs or one of our estheticians. As always, Le Beau Visage offers free consultations for laser hair removal, as we do with all our services and products.

One major rule of thumb is beware of cheap centers that offer HUGE discounts. Make sure you go with a credible center with trained laser technicians and up-to-date lasers and machines. You get what you pay for, so keep that in mind as well.

  1. Yes, I am very much agree to this. Laser hair removal is more effective than shaving. It would be easier to do and lesser pain would be feel while doing this treatment.
I, myself prefer to have this laser hair removal technique rather than waxing. Why settle for less?
