Peels 101

With the holidays almost behind , sleep isn’t something we are getting a lot of - it’s going to be a new year – and a great start looking your best. There are many skin care changes we can make that will help us feel and look better.

If you are planning on spending time on the slopes or at the beach this holiday, or early 2010, you must remember that sun exposure can still occur in the winter. In the colder climates, our skin can dry out, too. It is really all about having healthy skin and taking care of ourselves. Don’t forget to pack your broad-spectrum SPF and moisturizer for the trip.

After the holiday - for a fresh look, consider a chemical peel, IPL photo facial, laser resurfacing or microdermabrasion.

Chemical peels are great for a number of things – coming in a variety of concentrations and intensity (strengths and types of acid) providing different results for different skin conditions or aesthetic needs. TCA peels (stronger acids, higher strength) are a bit more expensive than NON-TCA, peels such as salicylic peels and glycolic peels. Salicylic peels for example, are great for acne-prone skin, while Glycolic peels are great for texture and tonicity.

Microdermabrasion
is a deep cleaning & exfoliation, and will remove the top few layers of your skin. Applying a peel just after your microdermabrasion will make your peel more effective.

Your Esthetician will be able to consult with you to figure out which type of peel is best for your skin type and needs – and when it’s best to do it. Aftercare/downtime for a peel always depends on the type of peel, and typically includes a gentle cleanser and avoiding any other acids in product used over the next few days. Don’t forget to use your sunscreen product as well – as your skin will need the extra protection. Your Esthetician will also discuss these with you depending on which peel was performed.

Tone up for the Holidays!

I think I changed my mind about what I want for Christmas this year. I might just go for the gold and get mesotherapy!

If you don't know, you will soon as most women are already familiar with this wonderful procedure. Mesotherapy is a non-invasive procedure that is used to reduce cellulite and is offered at Le Beau Visage.

Mesotherapy tightens the skin and reduces stretch marks. This laser cellulite reduction, sometimes referred to as 'lipo dissolve' is a cellulite treatment that targets problem areas with micro-injections of conventional or homeopathic medicines, vitamins, minerals and amino acids. Tiny "medicinal bullets" are delivered directly into the mesoderm (middle layer of skin). The content mixture of the injection varies in accordance with each unique case and specific area to be treated.

Restrictions vary, depending on the condition being treated and you should always talk to your Doctor before receiving this treatment. The best part of getting mesotherapy done at Le Beau Visage - is that Dr. Riehs is a full time, on-site physician - and he medically supervises all procedures and services.

For after care, Dr. Riehs will discuss particulars to your case. However, it's best not to take hot showers for at least 6 to 8 hours and he recommends that patients eat a high-protein meal, and avoid caffeine or other stimulants before treatment. (I can do that to look GOOD!!)

Mesotherapy is a relatively painless procedure due to the use of anesthetic creams applied to the area prior to injection, while liposuction often results in some pain after the surgery, as well as during the healing weeks that follow. Sedation is not necessary with Mesotherapy, and the patient can walk out of the office a few moments after the treatment. This procedure is performed on-site by Dr. Riehs - and depending on the area, and desired results - it is recommended to receive injections every two weeks, and 10 treatments are suggested.

Your holiday dreams can now be a reality - with mesotherapy, a safe and effective alternative to liposuction. Be the envy of those New Year's Eve parties when you strut that cute little red dress!
